Through acknowledging and accepting our feelings, comforting ourselves in times of difficulty, and recognizing our common humanity, we can weather the difficult challenges that come our way. Participants will leave with practical tools and practices to take into daily life.

Workshop Offerings

Tools for Managing Sadness

Participants will:

  • Learn strategies for increasing emotional awareness of sadness

  • Gain easy-to-implement tools and lessons for managing sadness

  • Reflect on how to implement these tools into work and life

Description: We receive many messages that we should always be happy—or at least pretend to be. However, sadness is a natural part of human experience, and when we repress it, it can come out as anger, frustration, or anxiety. For this reason, it’s important to have strategies for recognizing and acknowledging sadness. When we have these tools, we’re are able to express our feelings, which leads to resilience. When we don’t, we can shut down or lash out. In this session, participants will learn how to increase emotional awareness and utilize interventions for sadness through research-based strategies that can be used in times of overwhelm.

Tools for Managing Anxiety and Fear

Participants will:

  • Learn strategies for increasing emotional awareness of anxiety and nervousness

  • Gain easy-to-implement tools for managing anxiety and nervousness

  • Reflect on how to implement these tools and strategies into work and life

Description: Statistics show that more people are experiencing anxiety than ever before, and anxiety’s impacts range from decreased performance to increased interpersonal problems and lowered self-esteem. These impacts show up in all aspects of our lives. However, anxiety can be managed. In this session, participants will learn how to increase emotional awareness and utilize interventions for anxiety through research-based strategies that can be used in and out of the classroom for self and for students.

Tools for Managing Anger and Frustration

Participants will:

  • Learn strategies for increasing emotional awareness of anger and frustration

  • Gain easy-to-implement tools for managing anger and frustration

  • Reflect on how to implement these tools into our work and life

Description: Anger may be the most disruptive of any emotion. When it shows up, an angry outburst can ruin a morning, or a relationship. While anger is completely normal, if its unregulated, it can be acted out in ways that create regret in ourselves and challenges for others. In this session, participants will learn how to increase emotional awareness and implement research-based strategies that can be used in work and life to manage anger and frustration in overwhelming times.
