Description: We receive many messages that we should always be happy—or at least pretend to be. However, sadness is a natural part of human experience, and when we repress it, it can come out as anger, frustration, or anxiety. For this reason, it’s important to have strategies for recognizing and acknowledging sadness. When we have these tools, we’re are able to express our feelings, which leads to resilience. When we don’t, we can shut down or lash out. In this session, participants will learn how to increase emotional awareness and utilize interventions for sadness through research-based strategies that can be used in times of overwhelm. These strategies can be used individually and in a group setting.
